Recent investigations have unveiled telephone conversations involving Esmeralda Komici, a relative of the detained Gerald Stamolla, who is suspected of facilitating the supply and delivery of narcotics within prison walls. The evidence comes from a dossier compiled by journalist Anlia Hoxha, which indicates that the conversations took place between June 25 and July 10, 2025, while Stamolla was held at the Elbasan prison (IEVP).
In these recorded calls, Stamolla solicits Komici’s assistance in procuring drugs. During one exchange, he informs her that a third party will contact her to deliver a package referred to as “the cigarette” in Elbasan, which is intended for subsequent transfer to another individual. Komici expresses reluctance due to financial constraints, but Stamolla reassures her that payment can be arranged later based on her ability to pay.
The dossier provides a glimpse into their interactions, highlighting the casual yet concerning nature of their dealings. In one segment, Esmeralda is heard discussing the amount of money required: “I need 40 and 10 thousand lek; that’s a bit short, the total is 50.” Stamolla prompts her, asking about her whereabouts and urging her to meet discreetly, showing a level of urgency in executing their plan.
The transcripts reveal a network of communication that raises serious questions regarding drug trafficking operations within the prison environment. The apparent ease with which Stamolla communicates his needs and the compliance of Komici indicate a troubling dynamic that highlights potential security lapses in the system.
Overall, this development sheds light on the broader issue of drug smuggling into prisons, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance and tighter controls to prevent the infiltration of illegal substances into correctional facilities. The ongoing investigations may yield further insights into this case and broader implications for prison safety and drug enforcement policies.
This situation reflects a delicate balance between personal relationships and illicit activities, stirring concerns about the integrity of the prison system and the effectiveness of current regulations against drug trafficking in such environments.
