Ismet Kryeziu, an official from the “Democracia në Veprim” party, has voiced strong criticism against the Central Election Commission (KQZ) regarding its handling of electoral processes. He emphasized the need for the KQZ to act as a constitutional authority with transparency and public accountability, rather than relying on announcements that, in his view, attempt to justify their actions and shift institutional responsibility to a private company. Kryeziu expressed that it is unacceptable to claim that a private business can ensure trust in the electoral process, labeling this a “serious institutional error” that fosters public distrust and indicates a lack of serious professionalism.
He made these comments on Facebook amid ongoing election-related issues, particularly concerning the counting of votes in Mitrovica. The KQZ had recently distributed a statement issued by a Slovenian company responsible for printing the ballots. Following this, the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica announced that it had ordered the KQZ to resume the counting of votes in South Mitrovica. This decision came after clarifications provided by the Slovenian company CETIS on the ballot printing process.
Kryeziu’s remarks highlight the broader concerns regarding the integrity and accountability of the electoral process in Kosovo. His call for the KQZ to communicate effectively as a constitutional authority reflects a demand for greater transparency in how electoral matters are managed. The reliance on a private entity for ensuring the credibility of the electoral process raises questions about the public’s confidence in election outcomes and the professionalism of the institutions involved.
The unfolding situation underscores the critical nature of public trust in electoral bodies and their processes, as well as the vital role that clarity and responsibility play in maintaining this trust. As the electoral landscape in Kosovo continues to evolve, the dialogue surrounding these issues is expected to persist, highlighting the ongoing need for accountability and integrity in the democratic process.
